Three Hume Tennis Juniors Set to Shine at Tennis Australia Junior Nationals

Hume Tennis & Community Centre is proudly celebrating the achievements of three of its rising junior stars, with Gavy Dhindsa, Jocelyn Jia and Matteo Andres Currea Cardozo competing at this week’s Tennis Australia Junior National Championships.

The championships bring together some of the best young tennis talent from across Australia, and we are incredibly proud to have three players representing Hume Tennis on the national stage.

Gavy Dhindsa – No. 1 Seed in the 12/u Boys

Gavy Dhindsa heads into the championships as the number one seed in the 12/u Boys Singles, carrying an impressive current Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 9.

Gavy has enjoyed an outstanding year of development, including impressive performances internationally, and continues to demonstrate the dedication, competitive spirit and work ethic required to compete at the highest level of junior tennis.

Being the top seed at a national championship is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work Gavy has put into his tennis.

Jocelyn Jia – Among the Top Seeds in the 14/u Girls

Jocelyn Jia will also be looking to make her mark at the championships as one of the top seeds in the 14/u Girls Singles.

Jocelyn has continued to develop into one of Australia’s exciting young junior talents, with her commitment to training, competitive attitude and growing experience helping her take significant steps forward.

Her selection among the top seeds is another wonderful achievement, and we look forward to watching her compete against Australia’s best.

Matteo Andres Currea Cardozo – Chasing a Main Draw Place

Matteo Andres Currea Cardozo will be looking to make his own mark on the championships as he competes in qualifying for the 12/u Boys Singles.

Matteo will be aiming to secure a place in the main draw, where he hopes to join fellow Hume Tennis player Gavy Dhindsa.

Qualifying for a national championship presents a fantastic opportunity, and Matteo’s continued development and determination have been wonderful to see.

“To have three of our juniors competing at the National Championships is something we are incredibly proud of. We’ve watched Gavy, Jocelyn and Matteo grow not only as tennis players but also as young people. Their commitment, hard work and passion for the game have been fantastic to see. At Hume Tennis, our goal is to give every player the opportunity to be the best they can be, both on and off the court. These three are wonderful examples of what can be achieved through dedication, great coaching and a supportive tennis community.”

A Challenging National Championship Format

The singles main draw features 32 players competing in a round-robin format.

Players are divided into eight groups of four, with each player competing against the other three players in their group. Only the winner of each group progresses to the final eight and the knockout stage of the competition.

More Than Just Results – Celebrating Their Development

At Hume Tennis & Community Centre, we believe that junior player development is about much more than rankings, trophies and results.

It is about the journey, the commitment to improvement, the challenges players overcome and the personal growth that comes through being involved in sport.

We are incredibly proud of Gavy, Jocelyn and Matteo — not simply because they are competing at a national championship, but because of how much they have grown as players and young people.
