Hume Coaches selected as Super 10’s Coaches

Two of Hume Tennis and Community Centre tennis coaches: Lisa Whybourn and James Connelly have been selected as Tennis Australia Super 10’s coaches for the 2018 upcoming tennis season.

Lisa and James are looking forward to helping out some of Victoria’s brightest stars at the upcoming Tennis Victoria Super 10’s season

Super 10s is a competition held over seven weeks for boys and girls aged 10/u. The program is run Australia-wide. This competition facilitates is for 10/u players to develop a culture of fair play, teamwork and acknowledgment.

Selection trials were held to select teams and players who are divided up into boys and girls teams (four players per team) who then compete in a modified match format (using green balls) designed to be short in duration and innovative.

A couple of the main focus for Lisa and James throughout the season will be to:

  • promote teamwork among athletes, teams and families
  • encourage an engaging environment for players and parents
  • develop tactical and competitive awareness

Ashley Nauman, who is Tennis Australia’s Talent Development Manager indicated he was delighted to have two coaches with such experience and passion as part of the Super 10’s team.

Lisa is a great role model for young girls to look up to

Lisa, is a former WTA player and is looking forward to the opportunity to develop the young tennis talent. “I remember when I was 10, and to now, seems like yesterday so to be able to guide the young players – is something I am really excited about. I only finished playing professionally last year and my competitive drive was one of my strengths so I am hoping I can help the players understand the importance of competitive consistency.”

 

 

 

James Connelly (pic left) has quickly become a great role model for the young players at Hume Tennis and Community Centre

James has been involved with Super 10’s in Western Australia before moving to Hume Tennis and Community Centre in 2018. He is also a Tennis Australia accredited Talent Development Coach who has worked with players on the WTA and ATP circuits. ” I have a passion for developing young players and through my coaching experience I feel I can really help the players and their families understand the challenges of performance tennis”
