History Made at Hume Tennis: 12-Year-Old Jocelyn Jia Wins the HEAD Discovery 3K Women’s Open

Hume Tennis is celebrating an extraordinary moment in Australian tennis history.

At just 12 years old, Jocelyn Jia has become one of the youngest player ever to win an Open Money Event in Australia, claiming the HEAD Discovery 3K Women’s Open (Dec 27–30) in stunning fashion.

Jocelyn required a special age exemption from Tennis Victoria to even enter the event—yet she didn’t just compete… she conquered.

Fresh off representing Australia at the world-renowned Orange Bowl in Florida, where she reached the 3rd round, Jocelyn arrived at Hume with confidence, resilience, and a fearless mindset. What followed was one of the most remarkable tournament runs we’ve seen.

Jocelyn’s Road to the Title

To win the championship, Jocelyn defeated the No. 1, 3, 4, and 5 seeds, each with significantly higher UTR ratings.

One of the tournament’s defining moments came in the second round against the top seed:

  • Down a set
  • Down 5–3 in the second
  • Facing an opponent with a 1.5 higher UTR

Jocelyn produced an incredible comeback, forcing a third-set Super Tiebreak—and winning it. From there, her belief only grew stronger.

In her victory speech, Jocelyn thanked her coaches… and herself! A perfectly fitting touch for a young athlete who displayed such maturity, courage, and self-belief throughout the week.

A Star on the Rise

Jocelyn now turns her focus to two more Women’s Open events at Hume on:

  • January 2–5
  • January 6–9

Looking ahead to 2026, she has her sights set on making a big impact in Tennis Australia National events—and based on this week’s performance, the future looks very bright.

From the Centre Manager

Centre Director, Tim Connelly, praised the breakthrough performance:

“Jocelyn’s win is quite remarkable and unexpected. Each match she got better, and to win so many tight matches shows she has an appetite to compete. We are so excited to see her growth and love being part of her journey. Right now, the sky’s the limit. She has such a vibrant personality, always brings a positive attitude, and is such a popular member of the Club.”
