Monday July 13, 2020 is a day of celebration for those who love to play tennis.
Hume Tennis and Community Centre will re-open after the Victorian State Government announced tennis is a sport for exercise during the current Stage 3 lockdown.
The decision means Hume Tennis and Community Centre, a Craigieburn Tennis Club situated in Highland Estate will be able to offer tennis play for the whole community.
Centre Manager, Tim Connelly said, “what is awesome about this decision is: court hire through our online system Book A Court and one on one tennis coaching will recommence from Monday July 13th something we weren’t able to do during lockdown 1.”
Hume Tennis was closed for the second time on Wednesday July 1st when the 3064 was zoned as a COVID Hot Spot.
Since the greater Melbourne lockdown on July 8th the State Government decided tennis and golf as safe sporting exercise because there has been no record of community transmission occurring through open air sports where social distancing can be observed.
Evidence tennis is a safe COVID exercise option is verified by tennis never being closed in any other state in Australia through the nation lockdown froMarch to May.
While Hume is excited to be back on court – it does mean some strict COVID rules must be followed. To understand the requirements of players, please view the Tennis Victoria advice from July 9th :https://www.tennis.com.au/vic/news/2020/07/09/tennis-victoria-update-9-july
